NEW YEAR, COVID, AND BAD EATING HABITS

WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR YOUR HEALTH?

We are starting out 2022 with a new, more contagious strain of covid. Although it seems to be producing milder symptoms, people are still fearful of what it will do to their health and the health of their loved ones. So, it seems to me like it would be a good time to take a look at what you’re doing on a daily basis that is going to produce the most health benefits.

Let’s begin with your diet. You eat three times a day, at least, and most people eat every few hours for 16 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. That is a lot of eating. You eat more than you realize. And don’t you think that what you are putting directly in your body on a daily basis is going to have the greatest effect on your health, your immune system, and your ability to fight of infection? Of course, it is! That daily bag of Doritos, the can of coke, the bowl of sugary cereal, and the giant plate of pasta are doing NOTHING for your health. These processed, packaged, pre-bagged foods are devoid of any usable nutrients and minerals. They contain almost no protein, which is an essential macro-nutrient, and they are pumped full of sugar, chemicals, and additives!

WHAT YOU SHOULD BE DOING TODAY TO BE HEALTHIER TOMORROW

Instead of eating easy, convenient, pre-packaged foods, that are causing the demise of the health of this nation. You should start eating more REAL food that was grown or consumed grown foods! Our bodies NEED the essential macro-nutrients, protein, and fat. We cannot make new cells or grow without these two things. We also need micro-nutrients, vitamins, and minerals, which are only available through vegetables, plants, grass-fed animals, nuts, and seeds. There is also a difference between supplements and the real thing. Supplementing may be necessary for some but should be under the care and instruction of a professional.

Eating fresh vegetables and some fruit is a must! Starting with incorporating a cup of vegetables once per day is a great place to start. Eating vegetables doesn’t have to be boring or taste bad. Adding some healthy fat and real salt will go a long way in making them taste delicious!

Getting adequate protein is something that every person I talk to struggles with. So, maybe instead of having cereal, toast, or oatmeal in the morning, you have eggs instead. Instead of pasta for dinner, you have protein and vegetables. I know you are thinking, this is easier said than done. And I would argue that it is just as easy to do it.

YOUR POOR FOOD CHOICES AREN’T AFFECTING YOU YET

You may not be feeling like anything serious is happening to you right now but give it time. Just because you are a normal weight, and you are disease free doesn’t mean your organs are functioning the way they should. In fact, most people think they feel ok until they start eating real food. Suddenly they think clearer, they sleep better, their headaches are gone, and they don’t feel like napping in the middle of the day! Well, by golly! It’s a miracle!

But then I see people who are in their 50’s and 60s who are feeling it. They didn’t take care of their bodies and now they are paying for it. Some are obese, type 2 diabetic, hypertension, high cholesterol, achy, inflamed, and feeling crappy all of the time. Bad eating habits catch up to you as you age. So, don’t wait. If you know you need to do something, then do it. What are you waiting for? Don’t give covid or type 2 diabetes a chance to take hold of your health!
